Job summary

Doña Ana County is seeking a Building Inspector to perform inspections for new construction, alterations, and occupancies to ensure compliance with county, state, and federal codes. The role includes reporting, permitting, and coordinating inspection requests.

Qualifications include education (high school diploma), licensure within NM, and ICC certifications within specified timeframes. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred and background checks are required.

Qualifications

  • General building inspector licensure required within three months of hire.
  • NM CID Building Inspector certification within three months and Residential and Commercial Building Inspector Certification from ICC within one year.
  • GB2 or GB98 license issued by NM or another state preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Must pass pre-employment background check and driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect buildings for compliance with codes and county/state/federal ordinances.
  • Analyze buildings undergoing change of use or occupancy to bring into compliance.
  • Determine extent of damage and necessary permits for repair.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with codes and regulations.
  • Prepare inspection reports and issue permits and citations.
  • Coordinate scheduling of inspection requests for permits.
  • Provide quality customer service.
  • Conduct site checks for skirting and setback requirements for mobile/manufactured homes.
