Job summary

City of St. Pete Beach seeks an Inspector to perform intermediate technical work in inspection and plan review of commercial and residential construction for compliance with the Florida Building Code and local ordinances.

Work is under the supervision of the Building Official. The role includes scheduling inspections, interpreting code requirements for contractors and residents, assisting with enforcement, and testifying at hearings when required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Valid Florida driver license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to obtain within one year and maintain FL State Inspector & Plans Examiner license in Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, or 1-2 Family per Florida Statutes 468.
• Ability to attend and complete DEP FSESCI Program and obtain Qualified Stormwater Management Inspector Certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform building and trade inspections and plan review of varying complexity for code compliance.
• Schedule inspection requests and record inspection results.
• Confers with contractors, engineers, architects, and residents to interpret code requirements.
• Assist code enforcement in investigating violations (erosion control, unpermitted work, unlicensed activity).
• Appear and offer testimony at code enforcement hearings and court when necessary.
• Meet violators to resolve issues and achieve compliance.
• Perform stormwater erosion and sedimentation inspections.
• Assist at permit counter issuing permits.
