A high school diploma and Florida Stat.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Building Inspector requirements per Fla. Stat. 468.609: four (4) years combined experience in construction, building code inspection or plans review; or three (3) years postsecondary education plus experience; or three (3) years technical education plus experience.
• Fingerprinting required.

Responsibilities

• Conducts inspections of building construction, erection, repair, addition, or alteration projects for compliance with codes.
• Reviews approved construction plans on site for compliance with codes and ordinances.
• Verifies permit scope and licensing, and addresses site information for compliance.
• Enforces building, electrical, plumbing, gas, and mechanical codes; issues citations for noncompliance.
• Travels to construction sites for field inspections and reviews installation quality; ensures proper safety.
• Interacts with architects, contractors, owners, and the public to explain code provisions.
• Provides leadership when deficiencies are found and suspends work as needed.
• Performs field reviews of plans and maintains inspection records.
• Responds to inquiries from public and professionals and maintains reference materials.
