Job summary

The City of Mount Dora Building Department is seeking a qualified Plans Examiner to enforce Florida Building Code, Fire Code, and related ordinances. This role reviews plans, coordinates with architects and engineers, and supports building officials in permitting and plan review.

Applicants must have a high school diploma, 5 years of eligible experience, and certifications such as Plans Examiner and Floodplain Manager. The position requires travel and field inspections as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 5 years of experience as a licensed architect, engineer, building contractor, Standard Building Inspector, or Standard Plans Examiner.
• Obtain Standard Plans Examiner Certification (Building/Electrical/Plumbing/Mechanical).
• Certified Floodplain Manager certification.
• Fire Safety Inspector I certification.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License.
• Sufficient education/experience to apply for Plans Examiner certification in FL.
• Complete NIMS training within 6 months of probation.

Responsibilities

• Performs plan review for building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and gas installations per Florida Building Codes.
• Performs plan review for fire prevention per Florida Fire Prevention Code.
• Reviews construction documents for compliance with codes and ordinances.
• Provides technical assistance to Building Officials, inspectors, and others.
• Consults with architects, engineers, contractors, homeowners, and others on code compliance.
• Establishes policies to enhance plan review efficiency.
• Conducts field inspections as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
