Job summary

University of Central Florida's Building Department is seeking a Plans Examiner I to perform code reviews and inspections across university facilities in compliance with the Florida Building Code. This role is designated as Emergency Essential Personnel.

You will review plans, conduct on-site inspections, document findings, and coordinate corrections while ensuring adherence to adopted codes and standards. A license pathway is required within 6 months and full licensure within one year.

Qualifications

• Requires 4+ years of relevant work experience in construction, design or inspections.
• Must possess 1 inspector license and 1 plans examiner license or receive inspector certification within 6 months and full licensure within 1 year.
• Experience with Florida Building Code is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Review construction plans and specifications for compliance with codes; prepare approvals or rejections.
• Conduct on-site inspections to verify compliance and coordinate corrective actions.
• Document plan review comments, inspection results, and corrections.
• Approve materials, methods, and installations per codes and standards.
• Serve as a departmental resource to architects, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors.
