Job summary

City of Coral Gables is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer to enforce zoning, City, and Miami-Dade County codes under the Building Official. The role includes investigating violations, handling complaints, and preparing court-related materials.

Responsibilities also include issuing notices of violation, testifying in court, maintaining case files, and coordinating with various departments. Weekend and variable shifts may be required as part of duties.

Qualifications

• Two years of progressively responsible experience in code inspection and/or construction trades.
• F.A.C.E. Level 1 certification must be obtained within two years of hire.
• Valid Florida Driver's License.
• College coursework in code enforcement or related field preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections for violations of ordinances, zoning and City codes; issue notices of violations and citations.
• Receive and investigate complaints of zoning and City code violations.
• Research case histories for construction related cases; prepare depositions and testify in proceedings.
• Prepare and process summons, subpoenas, enforcement orders, property liens and public notices.
• Prepare and present forms and evidence for prosecution to the Code Enforcement Board and court; provide testimony.
• Write reports to justify violations for court cases and maintain records.
