Job summary

City of Coral Gables is seeking a certified Building Official who will oversee plans review, inspections, and enforcement for building and zoning compliance. The role reports to the Chief Building Official and includes leadership of inspectors and reviewers.

The candidate will manage floodplain duties under NFIP/CRS, coordinate with state officials, and oversee elevation certificates for properties in special flood hazard areas.

Qualifications

• Qualified candidate must interpret and enforce provisions of the Florida Building Code.
• Candidate provides technical guidance to field inspectors on building and zoning matters.
• Experience overseeing plan reviews and inspections to ensure code compliance.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and enforce Florida Building Code provisions under Chief Building Official.
• Oversee Chief Building Inspector, Building Inspectors, MEP inspectors, and plan reviewers.
• Review plans for permits to verify code compliance and advise applicants of changes.
• Inspect dwellings to prevent violations and issue stop work orders when needed.
• Coordinate floodplain management and CRS/NFIP program activities for the City.
