Job summary

Siemens is offering a Smart Building Systems Specialist Intern program in the Pittsburgh area. This internship blends field training with hands‑on HVAC automation work, rotating through installation, service, and project delivery teams.

You will shadow experienced technicians, engage with customers, and learn to diagnose, repair, and commission building automation systems while developing professional skills in a real-world setting.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or state‑recognized GED.
• Education: Students enrolled in or recently completed a 2‑year technical college/program pursuing HVAC controls, building automation, mechanical/electrical engineering tech, energy/sustainability, or related field.
• Availability: able to work 40 hours/week for the 10‑week program (May–July or June–August).
• Relocation: onsite work with no housing stipend. No visa sponsorship provided.
• Work authorization: legally allowed to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Comfortable in dynamic environments (roofs, crawl spaces, etc.).
• Hands‑on role using hand tools, laptops, tablets, and other tech.
• Physically able to lift up to 75 pounds.
• Team player who collaborates with coworkers and customers.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and Windows laptops; able to learn new automation software.
• Strong communication to document work and explain tech issues.

Responsibilities

• Spends 80% of time on job sites with experienced Siemens technicians learning HVAC automation installation, programming, and service in commercial buildings.
• Gains 10% sales exposure by engaging with the sales team to understand building performance enhancements.
• Rotates through service and project delivery teams to support installation, maintenance and upgrades.
• Visits customer sites to troubleshoot, diagnose issues, and assist in system commissioning.
• Documents service activities and explains system operations to customers; identifies upgrade opportunities.
• Collaborates with engineering and project management to resolve discrepancies in drawings and challenges.
