Job summary

Jobot is seeking a Building Automation Engineer in Richmond, VA, to design, implement, and maintain advanced BAS across HVAC, lighting, and energy management. You will develop control strategies, perform system integration, and support commissioning and documentation efforts on complex projects.

The role requires a strong foundation in HVAC, electrical systems, BAS platforms, and networking protocols, with hands-on programming experience and site safety awareness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Strong understanding of HVAC systems, controls, and electrical systems.
• Experience with BAS platforms via major vendors (Tridium Niagara, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell).
• Knowledge of networking protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, TCP/IP).
• Programming experience in automation languages (Java, Python, or system-specific).
• Familiarity with schematics, construction drawings, and specs.
• Understanding of construction site safety requirements.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Responsibilities

• Design, program, and implement building automation systems (BAS) including HVAC, lighting, and energy management.
• Develop control strategies and sequences of operation for optimization.
• Perform system integration between building systems and devices.
• Conduct site surveys to understand customer needs and requirements.
• Provide site-specific training for owners and operators.
• Troubleshoot, commission, and support BAS installations.
• Collaborate with project teams for timely execution.
• Create and maintain system documentation and diagrams.
• Monitor performance and identify improvement opportunities.
• Diagnose defects and perform balancing measurements.
• Assist with project turnover to service providers.
• Work from floor plans, blueprints, and specifications.
