Job summary

Jobot is seeking a Controls Engineer to design, program, commission, and startup Building Automation Systems (BAS) for commercial and institutional projects in the Chicago area. You will work with customers to see projects through from design to completion, focusing on solving complex HVAC control challenges.

The role emphasizes field collaboration with project managers, technicians, and contractors, offering opportunities to optimize energy use and system performance across diverse facilities.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) or HVAC controls.
• Experience programming, commissioning, or servicing commercial BAS.
• Strong understanding of HVAC equipment, control strategies, and mechanical systems.
• Experience with BACnet, Modbus, or other building automation communication protocols.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.
• Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.
• Valid driver's license with the ability to travel locally to customer sites.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop BAS control systems for new construction, retrofit, and renovation projects.
• Program controllers, develop graphics, create sequences of operation, and configure system databases.
• Commission, troubleshoot, and optimize HVAC control systems to ensure peak system performance.
• Integrate HVAC equipment with third-party systems using open protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and other industry standards.
• Perform point-to-point verification, startup, functional testing, and system validation.
• Work closely with project managers, field technicians, electricians, mechanical contractors, and end users throughout project execution.
• Provide technical support during installation, startup, and warranty periods.
• Prepare project documentation including control drawings, submittals, as-built documentation, and commissioning reports.
• Assist customers with system training and ongoing technical support.
