Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Build Reliability Engineer to own reliability from design through production, collaborating with design and manufacturing to ensure flight hardware quality. You will drive continuous improvement, develop new processes, and dig into root causes for failures in order to reduce risk on propulsion, avionics, and structure components.

You will work on manufacturing, assembly, welding, and inspection processes, and engage on ramp-up with data-driven decisions and cross-functional

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, materials, manufacturing, chemical, electrical engineering, or another STEM field.
  • 1+ years in manufacturing, quality and/or design engineering role (student project team or internship qualifies).
  • Experience with build, assembly or integration of aerospace components and systems.
  • Knowledge of welding requirements and process controls for both automated and manual welding.

Responsibilities

  • Develop manufacturing, integration, assembly, welding, NDE, cleanliness, and checkouts processes from the ground up and enforce consistency across work centers.
  • Identify reliability gaps in manufacturing/design and implement improvements.
  • Create quality plans for flight hardware with key characteristics, testing, and inspection planning.
  • Monitor product/processes during ramp-up using quality and analysis tools.
  • Conduct build quality reviews to ensure design intent and reduce risk.
  • Investigate production/test/flight failures to identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Design and implement tooling for testing, fixturing, lifting, and fluids.
  • Define and document inspection requirements and procedures.
  • Contain non-conforming product and guide inspections and rework across sites.
