Job summary

Nationwide seeks an Underwriting Consultant for Brokerage Excess (E&S/Specialty) in a fast-paced, technically demanding role. Focus is on New business within Brokerage Excess with Chicago broker relationships as a reference point; travel to broker offices may be required.

You will determine acceptability, pricing, coverage terms, and reinsurance placement for complex risks, while building strong broker partnerships and driving production goals.

Qualifications

• Eight years CL underwriting experience handling large or complex accounts, excess & surplus lines experience preferred.
• Undergraduate degree preferred or equivalent work experience considered in lieu of a degree.
• Completion of general insurance courses CPCU, CIC, AU, ARM, CPIW, CWIS, or ASLI preferred.

Responsibilities

• Researches and develops new classes of business with input from actuarial and finance teams.
• Underwrites risks for acceptability, pricing, coverage and terms with high technical rigor.
• Achieves production and loss ratio goals with brokers through effective broker management.
• Oversees policy maintenance and authorizes necessary endorsements and changes.
• Develops broker relationships and supports marketing for underwriting events and campaigns.
• Mentors junior underwriters and shares specialized knowledge with the team.
