Job summary

Nationwide is seeking an Underwriting Specialist for Brokerage Casualty in its Excess & Surplus/Specialty lines. You determine risk acceptability, pricing, coverage and terms for complex risks, collaborating with brokers and program managers to meet production and loss ratio goals.

The role requires five years as a CL underwriter with E&S experience, strong underwriting knowledge, and the ability to work independently with sound judgment. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Five years as a CL underwriter, excess & surplus lines experience preferred.
• Knowledge of CL underwriting policies, practices and procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Reviews risks with brokers and decides to decline or accept business.
• Develops adequate premium and endorsements to address loss exposure.
• Places reinsurance per department guidelines and maintains broker relations.
• Supports research, development and training of underwriting staff.
