Job summary

AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Structural Engineering Intern for our transportation department in the Glen Allen, VA office. As an intern in the transportation department, you will assist in the design and inspection of various highway structures.

This position is expected to begin Summer 2027. Internships offer hands‑on experience in engineering, design, and infrastructure projects, with collaboration from experienced professionals in a globally recognized firm.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field with at least one year completed.
• Strong coursework in statics, strength of materials, steel design, and reinforced concrete design.
• Familiar with CAD software and MS Office.
• Good written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform assignments applying standard techniques to engineering tasks.
• Prepare engineering calculations.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.
• Assist in inspection of bridges, culverts, and tunnels.
• Prepare construction drawing details using CAD software.
• Work under supervision of a project manager or senior team member.
