The role involves communication with VDOT staff, local governments, consultants, and the public to maintain safe and high-quality highway bridges and structures.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers.
• Experience performing load rating analyses for bridges and other structures.
• Experience in the design, inspection, and maintenance of bridges and structures.
• Experience using computers and software applications including MS Office and engineering software.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and interpret engineering data; prepare clear reports and recommendations.
• Communicate with VDOT staff, local government, consultants, and the public on transportation projects.
• Review inspection schedules, coordinate structures, and ensure timely inspections.
• Use VDOT policies to deliver engineering projects compliant with laws and regulations.
• Inspect structures, prepare reports, and document recommendations for repairs or replacement.
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate engineering program activities to meet timelines.
• Perform load rating analysis to determine weight restrictions or repairs.
• Conduct QA/QC inspections and provide feedback and follow-up actions.
• Assist in project management including scope, schedule, budget and status reporting.
• Review reports for conformity with FHWA and department practices.
