Job summary

The Virginia Department of Transportation seeks a skilled engineer to provide technical advice, guidance and training on assigned bridge and structural programs. You will prepare analyses, reports, and recommendations, and support design, inspection, construction and maintenance activities to uphold safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to perform hands-on safety inspections outdoors in all weather.
• Experience with load rating analyses for bridges.
• Experience in design, inspection, and maintenance of bridges and structures.
• Proficiency with structural design/analysis software.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Analyze engineering data and prepare clear reports.
• Coordinate with agencies and the public to resolve issues.
• Review inspection schedules and manage consultant invoices.
• Lead engineering projects ensuring scope, schedule and budget compliance.
• Inspect structures, compile reports, and recommend repairs.
• Plan and coordinate program activities to meet deliverables.
• Perform load rating analyses and propose suitable actions.
• Support QA/QC inspections and provide corrective actions.
• Assist in project management including scope, budget, status.
• Review reports for conformity with FHWA practices.
• Represent VDOT on committees and work groups.
• Provide teamwork and customer service per VDOT values.
