Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an experienced equipment operator to support highway construction and repair projects across the state.

Responsibilities include operating heavy trucks and construction machinery such as boom and snooper trucks, excavators, loaders, and graders, as well as performing manual labor related to bridge work. The role requires physical stamina and a valid driver's license with CDL Class A within six months.

Qualifications

• Two years of related work experience or equivalence.
• Valid driver’s license required; CDL Class A within six months.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks.
• Able to work in various weather and traffic conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate boom truck and snooper truck in highway construction/repair.
• Operate tandem dump trucks with trailers and lowboy tractor for hauling and equipment transport.
• Operate excavator, motor grader, backhoe, pile driver, front end loader, skid steer, and rollers for highway/bridge work.
• Perform manual labor and use tools for bridge construction/repair (demolition, formwork, concrete spall repair, pile repair, painting, etc).
• Signal crane operator and rig lifted materials; ensure safety of lifted components.
• Conduct safety inspections on vehicles/equipment and assist in safety training and flagging operations.
• Coordinate placement of traffic control devices per the SCDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Manual.
• Assist in emergency or inclement weather operations.
