Bridge Engineer, PE

EMH&T has an opportunity for a Bridge Engineer, PE to join our Transportation Planning & Design team located in Columbus, OH.

As a Bridge Engineer, you will work collaboratively with the project team to develop creative solutions to address client needs and solve design and construction challenges that may arise.

Our Transportation Planning & Design projects typically involve design or redesign of highways and roadways, interchange design, drainage design, plan reviews, and coordination with public regulatory agencies and utility companies. Our work includes bridges and structures from overpass to footpath.

Desired Skills

• Ability to lead design and tasks for structural efforts to support public and private infrastructure and development, including unique and non-standard projects.
• Participate in the development of contract plans, the preparation of engineer's estimates and construction specifications, and performing field support services.
• Develop reports/studies, specifications, plans, and designs for projects of varying magnitude and for multiple clients. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope, and development of novel concepts and approaches.
• Work with limited supervision and consultation.
• Provide estimations of costs, personnel, and materials needed, and assist in establishing completion dates and preparing proposals. May assist with client presentations.
• Review project designs and plans from junior engineers for accuracy and completeness, including delegation of tasks as appropriate.
• Ensure project completion within the allocated time and budget, meeting quality control and assurance guidelines.
• Maintain liaison with individuals and units within or outside the organization, acting independently on technical matters.

Qualifications

• Professional license in Ohio.
• Bachelor's Degree (or advanced degree) in Civil Engineering, with a focus on Structural Engineering preferred.
• Design experience with reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, straight and curved steel beams.
• Experience with wood and masonry is a plus.
• Familiarity with CAD and design software such as OpenRoads, OpenBridge Designer, AutoCAD/Civil3D, Merlin Dash, MIDAS, AASHTO BrR, Leap Bridge, PyWall, L-Pile.
• Experience with public transportation projects (e.g., ODOT, Municipal, County) including steel and reinforced concrete designs per ODOT and AASHTO standards.
• Experience with railroad structures and AREMA standards is a plus.
• Bridge inspection experience is advantageous.
• Ability to lead technical projects of varying complexity and communicate effectively within a team.
• Demonstrated coursework and experience in structural engineering, designing bridges, culverts, retaining walls, foundations, and related structures.
