Job summary

Transylvania County Public Health seeks a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor/Interviewer for the WIC program. You will promote breastfeeding, educate participants, and collect anthropometric data while acting as a second interviewer in the WIC clinic.

The role includes outreach into the community, documenting in Crossroads, and coordinating referrals to other services. Requires high school diploma and NC license/ training completion within 1 year.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school and ability to understand and follow program regulations.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with interruptions.
• Flexibility to update knowledge of policy changes as needed.

Responsibilities

• Promote, educate, and support breastfeeding for WIC participants.
• Teach breastfeeding techniques via in-person and telephone contact.
• Assess breastfeeding dyads and refer to the Breastfeeding Coordinator as needed.
• Document contacts in Crossroads as required by the WIC Program Manual.
• Attend BFPC Quarterly Meetings and participate in continuing education.
• Interview and screen applicants for income eligibility and refer participants to services.
• Provide WIC outreach information and transfer details for participants moving out of area.
• Perform fingerstick HGB testing and measure height/weight for women, infants, and children.
