Job summary

Nelib in Cambridge, MA is seeking a Branch Manager to oversee the O'Connell Branch, lead staff, and partner with Library leadership to set priorities and deliver impactful services and programs for the community.

The role requires MLS, strong leadership, staff development, budgeting, and program planning across circulation, collections, youth programming, and outreach, with a focus on equity and excellent public service in a diverse urban library setting.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an ALA-accredited MLS program is required.
• Experience supervising branch staff and leading diverse teams.
• Strong customer service and public service orientation.
• Ability to develop and evaluate library services for community needs.
• Knowledge of equity, inclusion, and anti-racism in public libraries.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily branch operations and staff; set priorities and service standards.
• Direct staff scheduling, supervision, and training; ensure adequate desk coverage.
• Recruitment involvement and participation in hiring committees; staff development.
• Evaluate staff performance and address issues promptly.
• Provide frontline leadership and mentor branch staff; participate in leadership team.
• Enforce library policies; address patron issues and behavior violations.
• Lead programming, outreach, and community relations for the branch.
• Collaborate to promote branch events and online presence; support online resources.
