Job summary

DC Public Library is seeking a Supervisory Librarian (Branch Manager) MSS-13 in Washington, DC. This role leads branch operations, oversees staff and develops programs aligned with community needs, while acting as a liaison to partners and the Friends group.

The position emphasizes service excellence and strategic policy implementation across the system. The incumbent directs daily activities, participates in system-wide projects, and ensures branch performance meets organizational goals within

Qualifications

• MLIS or closely related degree from an accredited program.
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressive library management or public-service leadership experience.
• Experience developing services for diverse urban populations and working with community partners and government agencies.
• Supervising, training, developing and evaluating staff.
• Experience designing and implementing improvements to processes, services, programs and initiatives.
• Experience facilitating training for youth, teens and families.

Responsibilities

• Directs operation and activities of the branch library.
• Leads librarians and establishes partnerships aligned with community needs and strategic plan.
• Convenes regular staff meetings to discuss procedures and policies.
• Represents library at community events and serves as liaison to Friends group.
• Oversees performance plans and staff evaluations and conducts personnel actions as needed.
