Job summary

Girlstart is hiring an After School Program Leader (STEM CREW) to run hands-on, after-school STEM activities for 20-25 students at elementary schools in the Boston area, including Somerville. A car is not required; transportation costs covered if needed.

The role is part-time, 5-8 hours per week, with after-school meetings typically 3:00–4:30pm, and opportunities to lead additional programs. All majors welcome; training provided.

Qualifications

• Experience working with kids preferred.
• Desire to empower and educate girls in STEM.

Responsibilities

• Lead hands-on STEM after-school programs.

Job Description

Inspire Girls To Take On The World's Greatest Challenges! Girlstart is seeking After School Program Leaders (called STEM CREW --Creative, Resourceful, Empowered Workforce) to lead our hands-on, STEM-focused After School programs across the Boston, MA area (in Waltham, Woburn, and Somerville). A car is NOT required for this position; if you do not have your own car, Girlstart will cover the cost of transportation. Our After School programs meet once a week for an hour (programs vary from 1-1.5 hours) immediately after the school day. The purpose of our After School program is to provide 20-25 students with a fun STEM enrichment program that builds confidence and encourages them to pursue paths to higher education and to discover greater career opportunities. Girlstart is designed to build students' skills in collaboration, creative problem-solving, and critical thinking.

Commitment & Days and Times

We prefer After School Program Leaders be available at least 1 afternoon (Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays) a week to lead one program, with the option to lead 2 programs if there is interest and availability.* Potential Program Leaders need to be available around 2pm on program days; programs typically run from 3:00-4:30pm at respective elementary schools, so STEM CREW are expected to be available until around 5pm.

• The number of clubs a Program Leader is assigned will depend on Girlstart's needs each semester.

Girlstart's After School Program Leader commitment is 5-8 hours/week. Leading 1 After School program is approximately a 2-hour weekly commitment, which includes being prepared for the lesson, driving to location, leading the activity, and cleaning up. In addition to the 2 hours, Program Leaders are encouraged to have 1-2 office hours to practice the lesson of the week, organize materials, and ask questions about the activity and/room management.

Mandatory on-going training provided throughout position.
