Job description

Program Assistant - Full Time (40 hours per week)

Science Club for Girls (SCGF), a Cambridge-based non-profit established in 1994, seeks a dynamic, resourceful and collaborative individual with experience in human resource coordination, K-12 STEM education, and/or youth development to join our team. This is a 40 hour per week full-time position. SCGF fosters excitement, confidence and literacy in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) for girls and gender expansive youth in grades K-12, especially from communities underrepresented in STEM. We do this by providing free, experiential programs, held after school and on the weekends, in-person in Cambridge, Boston, Somerville, and Malden as well as in virtual formats.

Our programs are led by volunteer mentors who study and work in STEM fields. We recruit mentors and volunteers from a variety of sectors including academia, corporations and community organizations.

Science Club for Girls seeks a dynamic and detail-oriented Program Assistant to support volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts. This role involves providing on-site assistance in our after school and Saturday morning STEM clubs and completing special projects as required. This position is full-time, requiring 40 hours per week in a hybrid setting involving work at the SCGF office, within the community, and remotely. The Program Assistant reports directly to the Senior Volunteer Manager.

Assist in recruitment, onboarding, and retention processes of volunteer mentors.

Support mentor communications, including social media posts and newsletter segments.

Help plan and execute mentor appreciation events.

Support Program Staff as needed in weekly virtual clubs.

Attend in-person clubs and assist program managers by taking attendance, collecting surveys, working with mentors to set up classrooms and set up materials.

Assist Program Manager in preparing for in-person clubs, packing wagons and cars and carrying materials into sites and cleaning up after clubs.

Participate in staff meetings, team meetings, and partner meetings.

Align efforts with SCGF’s mission to prioritize recruiting a diverse volunteer base that reflects communities underrepresented in STEM by race (e.g., Black, Latina, Native American), by income (e.g., low-income households) or are the first generation in their families to attend college.

Assist with special projects as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

1-2 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: human resource coordination, communications, event planning, youth development, STEM and/or K-12 education.

Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.

Familiarity with social media platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook.

Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Good judgment, along with excellent time management and organizational skills.

Comfortable using AI.

Comfort working in both virtual and in-person workspaces.

Ability to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends.

Ability to lift at least 20 pounds.

Knowledge and experience in community/relationship building.

Commitment to promoting gender and racial equity as well as social justice initiatives.

Experience with event planning a plus

Familiarity with Zoom, Salesforce, Asana, Slack, and/or Canva a plus

Valid MA driver’s license and access to a car a plus

This is a hybrid, full-time (40 hours per week) role based out of our Kendall Square office, convenient to the Kendall/MIT MBTA station. In addition to time in the office, this role includes regular travel to SCGF club sites across Cambridge, Boston, Malden and Somerville, working alongside mentors and program staff in the community.

During our 8-week club sessions in the fall and spring, this role follows a Tuesday–Saturday schedule, with time split between the office, remote work, and on-site club visits.

Occasionally, staff also take part in organizational and partner events that may fall on evenings or weekends. We look for team members who bring flexibility and adaptability to their schedule and who are excited to be present in the community they serve.

The salary range for this position is $50,000-$55,000. Benefits include 401(k), health and dental insurance, 3-weeks paid time off plus one week off at the end of the calendar year, 13 paid holidays, and 6 personal/sick days annually. This position is open to Massachusetts residents only. A valid Massachusetts driver's license is required for this position. The role requires driving to vendors, clubs, and events within the Greater Boston area. Candidates must be willing to travel throughout the region.

This is an affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employment position. Persons of color and women are strongly encouraged to apply.
