Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is hiring Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) at the GL-5, GL-7, GL-9 or GS-11 levels across the United States. The role offers base pay, federal benefits, and strong job stability.

Education or prior public safety experience may qualify for entry or mid-level positions with potential promotion to GS-12. Selected BPAs may receive recruitment incentives up to $20,000 and retention incentives up to $30,000, with prioritized locations and a range of duty stations

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating ability to take charge, make sound decisions and maintain composure in stressful situations; or a bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study; or a combination of experience and education.
• Education substitution allowed for GL-5/7/9 levels as detailed in the posting.
• For GL-9/GS-11, specialized experience may be required such as firearms handling, law enforcement responsibilities, and related duties.

Responsibilities

• Detect and question individuals suspected of immigration or customs violations and inspect documents.
• Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders using surveillance and other assets.
• Interpret tracks, marks and evidence of entry or contraband.
• Perform checks (farm, building, traffic, city, transportation) and patrol diverse environments.
• Patrol international boundaries and waterways using various government assets.
