Job summary

Customs and Border Protection is hiring Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) across the United States to protect borders and enforce immigration and customs laws. New hires start at the GL-5 to GS-11 levels with competitive base pay and broad benefits, including retirement and health plans.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience or equivalent to qualify at GL-5.
• Bachelor's degree or full four-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree.
• Combination of experience and education.
• One year of specialized work experience for GL-7 grade level.
• Note: prior law enforcement experience may qualify for higher grades (GL-9/GS-11).

Responsibilities

• Detect individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspect documents and possessions.
• Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders.
• Interpret tracks, marks, and evidence of illegal entry.
• Perform farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, and city patrols.
• Patrol the international boundary and coastal waterways using diverse assets.
