Compensation:

$60,000 - $64,350 annually, commensurate with experience

Position Overview:

The Bookstore Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the Bookstore & Café, serving as an ambassador for Housing Works, prioritizing customer service, and embodying our Mission and Values. The role involves leading staff, maximizing revenue, and creating a positive environment.

Responsibilities:
  1. Create daily/monthly work plans to meet revenue, profit, and operational goals.
  2. Generate revenue through retail and café sales.
  3. Recruit, hire, onboard, and train employees and volunteers, ensuring compliance with standards and organizational goals.
  4. Ensure compliance with policies and organizational deadlines.
  5. Implement and uphold exemplary customer service standards.
  6. Adapt to business needs and implement new initiatives.
  7. Manage inventory and vendor relationships.
  8. Ensure all areas meet Department of Health codes.
Secondary Responsibilities:
  1. Partner with Marketing on promotions.
  2. Encourage teamwork and talent development.
  3. Prepare food and drinks, update menus seasonally.
  4. Assist with private and public events.
  5. Collaborate with other departments.
  6. Attend training and stay informed on industry knowledge.
  7. Act as a Housing Works Ambassador, participating in community actions.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Customer service commitment.
  • Food service/bar management experience required.
  • Culinary or barista training preferred.
  • Food handler’s license required.
  • At least 3 years of retail or hospitality management experience.
  • Knowledge of the second-hand market and Microsoft Office.
  • Flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays; may work over 40 hours with prior approval.
