Job summary

Macalester College seeks an Operating Engineer to monitor, maintain, and operate the central heating plant and related equipment during the heating season. The role includes management of boiler and chiller systems and building automation to ensure campus comfort and safety.

This is a union position (Local 70) with a 11pm–7am third shift on a rotating pattern and a summer maintenance schedule. A Minnesota First Class B Boiler Operator license is required, with on‑call duties and event support as

Qualifications

• Requires Minnesota First Class B Boiler Operator license.
• Strong knowledge of high‑pressure steam boiler operation and safety.
• Experience with building energy management systems.

Responsibilities

• Test, monitor, maintain, repair, and operate high‑pressure boilers and related equipment.
• Monitor boiler water quality and administer chemical treatment.
• Manage building automation systems for temperature control and alarm responses.
• Perform preventive/predictive maintenance as directed.
• Participation in on‑call maintenance rotation and support for campus events.
