Job summary

American Red Cross is seeking a Blood Collection Staff member to support donor services at various donation sites in Southern California. The role includes engaging donors, maintaining a welcoming environment, and ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Paid phlebotomy training is provided, with opportunities to grow healthcare skills within the organization. Flexibility in scheduling and driving responsibilities are part of the position.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills required.
• A current, valid driver’s license with a good driving record required.
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
• Prior healthcare or phlebotomy experience (CNA, MA, EMT, etc.) preferred.
• Prior leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Connect with donors personally to listen to their stories and explain the impact of donation.
• Collaborate with teammates to create a welcoming environment so donors feel comfortable returning.
• Ensure blood collected meets goals, regulatory requirements, and can be safely transfused.
• Drive Red Cross vehicles and assist with setup/teardown of equipment at donation sites.
• Work a variable schedule including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Schedule is provided two to three weeks in advance.
• Workday hours may range from 8–12 hours depending on role assigned.

The Blood Collection Staff position involves assisting with every step of the blood collection process including setting up equipment, creating a welcoming environment for donors, and following safety procedures. Paid phlebotomy training is provided with opportunities to grow healthcare skills within the American Red Cross.

Responsibilities

• Take the time to personally connect with donors – listen to their stories and help them understand how impactful their donation is


• Collaborate with your teammates to create a welcoming and friendly environment so volunteer donors feel comfortable coming back


• Be detail oriented to ensure blood collected meets goals, regulatory requirements and can be safely transfused


• Drive Red Cross vehicles and work with the team to setup and tear down equipment at donation sites


• Work a variable schedule which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays


• Schedule is provided two to three weeks in advance


• Workday hours may range from 8-12 hours depending on role assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required


• Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills are required

• Physical requirements may include the ability to lift, push or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs, good manual dexterity, the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes are required


• Position may require a minimum height of 60 inches to ensure the ability to safely operate Red Cross vehicles


• Basic computer skills are required


• Must be proficient with Microsoft office applications
