Job summary

Michigan Medicine's Women’s Birth Center seeks an Inpatient Unit Clerk to provide exceptional customer service to patients and clerical support to nurses and doctors. This communication-heavy role requires strong interpersonal, written, and verbal skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

The position involves rotating weekends and alternating holidays, with an evening shift 3:20pm-11:50pm and a schedule of 24 hours per week. Training is required for 4 days per week.

Qualifications

• Completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Basic computer skills, effective communication and interpersonal skills are desired.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.
• Training is required for a minimum of 4 or 5 days per week.

Responsibilities

• Admit, transfer, and discharge patients in the Women's Birth Center
• Receive and assist patients and visitors, providing excellent customer service
• Answer patient calls in a professional and timely manner
• Respond to emergent situations in a calm and professional manner; utilizing predefined processes
• Procure supplies, equipment, and services for patients
• Maintain census information
• Monitor infant security system
• Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with staff
