The University of Michigan's Michigan Medicine is seeking an Inpatient Unit Clerk for the Women’s Birth Center to provide excellent customer service to patients and clerical support to nurses and doctors. This communication-heavy role includes rotating weekends and alternating holidays.

You will interact with patients and staff, admit/transfer/discharge patients, and manage census and infant security with a trained, cooperative team. Hybrid work options may be available.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Effective communication & interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to multitask & prioritize tasks based on level of importance.
  • Training is required for a minimum of 4 or 5 days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Admit, transfer, and discharge patients in the Women's Birth Center
  • Receive and assist patients and visitors, providing excellent customer service
  • Answer patient calls in a professional and timely manner
  • Respond to emergent situations in a calm and professional manner; utilizing predefined processes
  • Procure supplies, equipment, and services for patients
  • Maintain census information
  • Monitor infant security system
  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with staff

Job Summary

The Women's Birth Center at Michigan Medicine is seeking an Inpatient Unit Clerk to provide excellent customer service to our patients and clerical support to our nurses and doctors. This is a communication-heavy position requiringgood interpersonal, written, and verbal skills, and the ability to work as a team. You will be expected to work rotating weekends and alternating holidays.

Responsibilities*
  • Utilize extensive on-the-job training to complete tasks
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge patients in the Women's Birth Center
  • Receive and assist patients and visitors, providing excellent customer service
  • Answer patient calls in a professional and timely manner

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes .

Work Schedule
  • Evening Shift 3:20pm-11:50pm
  • Ability to work rotating weekends and holidays
  • The schedule will be 24 Hours a week
  • Must be able to train no less than 4 days a week
Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
