Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology, Electronics, Information Technology or a related field with four years of biomedical/clinical experience including OEM training.
  • Associate’s degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology, Electronics, Information Technology or a related field with six years of biomedical/clinical experience including OEM training.
  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, Clinical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or related discipline is preferred, with 10+ years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, testing, repair and verification of laboratory and medical equipment.
  • Serve as the primary HTM technical resource for laboratory diagnostic equipment, especially clinical chemistry systems.
  • Independently troubleshoot complex equipment failures using diagnostics, schematics and OEM resources.
  • Support installation, commissioning, upgrades, relocations and operational readiness.
  • Collaborate with IT, Laboratory Operations and vendors on equipment connectivity and cybersecurity initiatives.

Title:Biomedical Clinical Engineering SpecialistJob Type:RegularCompany:Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer CenterDepartment:Healthcare Technology Management/Biomedical EngineeringTime Type:Full timeWeekly Hours:40FTE:1Shift:First Shift (United States of America)Summary:The Biomedical Engineering Specialist serves as a senior technical resource within Healthcare Technology Management (HTM), with primary responsibility for the hands-on maintenance and technical support of laboratory diagnostic equipment and systems, in addition to general and specialized medical equipment.The position performs preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, repair, performance verification, installation, and lifecycle support of medical technologies. The Specialist is expected to have a strong understanding of clinical laboratory operations, diagnostic workflows, and clinical chemistry equipment to effectively support laboratory services.This position supports Roswell Park’s strategy to strengthen internal technical capabilities, develop OEM-trained expertise, improve equipment reliability and uptime, and appropriately reduce dependency on external service providers.Reports to the Director, Healthcare Technology Management / Biomedical Engineering.What You'll Do:- Perform preventive maintenance, inspection, calibration, electrical safety testing, troubleshooting, repair, and performance verification of laboratory diagnostic and other medical equipment.- Serve as a primary HTM technical resource for laboratory diagnostic equipment and systems, particularly equipment used in clinical chemistry and diagnostic laboratory operations.- Independently troubleshoot complex equipment failures using test equipment, service documentation, diagnostic software, schematics, error logs, and OEM technical resources.- Develop and maintain advanced technical competency on assigned equipment through hands-on experience, OEM training, certification, and continuing technical education.- Support equipment installation, commissioning, acceptance testing, upgrades, relocations, and operational readiness.- Coordinate OEM and third-party service activities and review service reports, repair quality, response times, contract performance, and equipment uptime.- Identify opportunities to develop internal service capabilities and transition appropriate equipment from external service contracts to internal or hybrid support models.- Provide technical mentoring and knowledge transfer to other HTM technicians to strengthen internal laboratory and medical equipment support capabilities.- Support medical-device connectivity and integration, including LIS/EHR/EMR interfaces, middleware, network-connected medical devices, and related healthcare IT infrastructure in collaboration with Information Technology and clinical application teams.- Assist with troubleshooting device connectivity, communication, software, network, and interface-related issues within the scope of HTM responsibilities.- Support medical-device cybersecurity, software/firmware upgrades, network requirements, and technology integration initiatives.- Support critical-care and patient-care equipment as required. Experience maintaining these technologies is preferred.- Participate in equipment lifecycle planning, replacement planning, technology assessments, and pre-acquisition technical evaluations.- Assist clinical leadership, Laboratory Operations, Procurement, IT, and HTM leadership in evaluating new technologies and equipment acquisitions.- Participate in service contract evaluations, renewals, budgeting, and opportunities for service-cost optimization.- Ensure maintenance activities comply with applicable Joint Commission, CMS, NFPA, FDA, manufacturer, accreditation, and organizational requirements.- Maintain complete and accurate equipment and service documentation within the CMMS.- Collaborate effectively with Laboratory Operations, clinical departments, Information Technology, Facilities, Procurement, OEMs, and other service providers.Work Schedule:The anticipated work schedule is 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM to provide extended HTM operational coverage. The position requires flexibility to adjust working hours and provide extended or after-hours technical support when operationally necessary and as directed by HTM leadership.The starting annual salary for this position is $86,031 and this can include a full comprehensive benefits package.Qualifications:Required Education and Experience1. Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology, Electronics, Information Technology or a related field and the equivalent of four (4) years of full-time biomedical/clinical experience including biomedical/clinical product specific OEM (original equipment manufacturer) training in specialty; or2. Associate’s degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology, Electronics, Information Technology or a related field and the equivalent of six (6) years of full-time biomedical/clinical experience including biomedical/clinical product specific OEM (original equipment manufacturer) training in specialty.NOTE:Degrees must be conferred by an accredited school, college, or university, or by an institution recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and/or Health Research Incorporated as adhering to acceptable educational standards.Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, Clinical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline is preferred, with 10+ years of progressively responsible experience supporting, maintaining, and troubleshooting medical equipment.Demonstrated hands-on experience supporting laboratory diagnostic equipment, with working knowledge of clinical laboratory operations, diagnostic workflows, and/or clinical chemistry instrumentation, is strongly preferred.OEM technical training, credentialing, or certification on laboratory diagnostic or other complex medical equipment is strongly preferred.Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex medical equipment and systems with minimal technical supervision.Experience supporting and maintaining critical-care and patient-care medical devices is preferred.Experience with LIS/EHR/EMR integration, middleware, medical-device networking, connected medical devices, cybersecurity, and healthcare IT integration is preferred.Ability to interpret service manuals, schematics, technical documentation, diagnostic logs, and OEM service information and effectively utilize biomedical/electronic test equipment.Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with clinical, laboratory, IT, OEM, vendor, and HTM stakeholders.Ability to provide technical mentoring, hands-on guidance, and knowledge transfer to other HTM staff.Equal Employment Opportunity StatementRoswell Park Cancer Institute Corporation (RPCIC) and Health Research Inc.
