Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a Bio-Medical Technician to service a broad range of medical and electronic equipment across multiple Mercyhealth locations. The role emphasizes safety testing, equipment repair, and collaboration with medical and engineering staff.

The position requires an associate degree in bio-medical engineering or electronics and 1–3 years of related experience. AAMI certification is preferred, along with a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Bio-Medical Engineering/Electronics or related military equivalent certifications.
  • Minimum 1–3 years of experience in installing, maintaining and repairing medical, electronic and/or mechanical equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Serves and maintains a wide range of medical equipment and apparatus to ensure patient and staff safety.
  • Performs safety tests of equipment to prevent electrical or mechanical hazards.
  • Consults with medical or research staff to confirm equipment functions properly and safely.
  • Manages work orders and CMMS data entry related to daily department operations.
  • Travels to Mercyhealth locations and works with partners or manufacturers as needed.

Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Services various equipment and apparatus including but not limited to patient monitors, electrocardiographs, blood gas analyzers, x-ray units, defibrillators, electrosurgical units, anesthesia apparatus, pacemakers, blood pressure transducers, spirometers, sterilizers, diathermy equipment and other related technical paraphernalia.
  • Safety tests various equipment to ensure patient and staff safety from electrical or mechanical hazards.
  • Consults with medical or research staff to ascertain that equipment functions properly and safely.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in entering, completing, retrieving information regarding work orders, assets, PM schedules, and other functions and applications of the CMMS database as pertains to daily operation of the department.
  • Modifies or develops instruments or devices, under supervision of medical or engineering staff.
  • Works collectively with salesperson or service technician or equipment manufacturers or their representatives to assure proper operation of equipment.
  • Completes daily work orders and other tasks as assigned with minimal supervision.
  • Acts as a resource for partners.
  • Participates in managing inventories and operational budget, taking emergency call and helping with special events.
  • May be required to work flexible hours, alternate shifts and weekends.
  • May require travel with personal or company vehicle.
  • May be assigned to any of Mercyhealth locations.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Associate Degree in Bio-Medical Engineering/Electronics or related or related Military equivalent certifications or CBET Certification.

Minimum 1-3 years of experience in an environment that pertains to installing, maintaining and repairing medical, electronic and/or mechanical equipment

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Certification as a Bio-Medical Technician by AAMI preferred

Maintain a valid driver's license

Have and maintain driving record per Mercy's HR-01 Fleet Safety policy

PAY RANGE:

$27.17 - $40.75
