Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Technician to maintain, repair, and test a wide range of medical devices across Mercyhealth locations. The role involves collaborating with clinical staff, managing work orders, and ensuring equipment safety and reliability.

Qualified candidates will have an associate degree in bio-medical engineering/electronics or related military certifications and at least 3 years of relevant experience, including exposure to radiology or other specialized

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Bio-Medical Engineering / Electronics or related military equivalent certifications required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience installing, maintaining and repairing medical/electronic/mechanical equipment; with at least 1 year in Radiology, X-ray, Lab, OR, Dialysis, Anesthesia, Prosthetics or other specialized healthcare equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, repairs, and tests medical equipment to ensure proper and safe operation.
  • Safely conducts safety tests to protect patients and staff.
  • Works with medical staff to verify equipment functionality.
  • Keeps CMMS records up to date with work orders, assets and PM schedules.
  • Assists with inventory and budgets and may travel to Mercyhealth locations.

Job description

OVERVIEW

This role maintains, repairs, and tests medical equipment to make sure it works properly and safely for patients and staff. The employee works with healthcare staff, coworkers, and equipment manufacturers, manages work orders and supplies, solves equipment problems, and may work flexible hours, weekends, travel, or at different locations.

SCHEDULE

40-hours per week

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Services various equipment and apparatus including but not limited to patient monitors, electrocardiographs, blood gas analyzers, x-ray units, defibrillators, electrosurgical units, anesthesia apparatus, pacemakers, blood pressure transducers, spirometers, sterilizers, diathermy equipment and other related technical paraphernalia.
  • Specializes in high-end equipment maintenance as assigned; I.E. Life support equipment
  • Safety tests medical equipment to ensure patient and staff safety from electrical or mechanical hazards.
  • Consults with medical or research staff to ascertain that equipment functions properly and safely.
  • Acts as a resource for partners and provides support and assistance when needed.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in entering, completing, retrieving information regarding work orders, assets, PM schedules, and other functions and applications of the CMMS database as pertains to daily operation of the department.
  • Modifies or develops instruments or devices, as assigned.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision, prioritize workload, and maintain the highest possible levels of quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Works collectively with salesperson or service technician or equipment manufacturers or their sales representatives to assure proper operation of equipment.
  • Participates in managing inventories and operational budget, taking emergency call and helping with special events.
  • May be required to work flexible hours, alternate shifts and weekends.
  • May require travel with personal or company vehicle.
  • May be assigned to any of Mercyhealth locations.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Associate Degree in Bio-Medical Engineering / Electronics or related or related Military equivalent certifications required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an environment that pertains to installing, maintaining and repairing medical, electronic and/or mechanical equipment; with at least 1 year Radiology, X-ray, Lab, OR, Dialysis, Anesthesia, Prosthetics or other specialized healthcare equipment experience that can be documented with coursework and/or certification from vendor.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
  • Certification as a Bio-Medical Technician by AAMI, CRES or CLES preferred.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license
  • Have and maintain driving record per Mercy's HR-01 Fleet Safety policy
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to understand and apply knowledge in technical manual, interpretive/analytical skills
  • Ability to prioritize workload
  • Good interpersonal/communication skills
  • Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
PAY RANGE

$28.83 - $43.25
