Job summary

Piedmont Virginia Community College is seeking a part-time Biology Lab Assistant to support biology, microbiology and anatomy & physiology labs. You will assist with sample prep, setup and calibration, maintain living organisms, and help instructors prior to lab sessions.

Responsibilities include maintaining notebooks, disposing of waste, and ensuring sanitation and safety standards while collaborating with staff and students. Evening/weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

• Ability to prepare chemical solutions and dilutions and use common lab equipment.
• Willing to work evenings and weekends as needed.
• Capable of independent work in a lab setting with safety protocol knowledge.
• Knowledge of chemical safety and hazardous waste storage and disposal.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with Windows apps, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Prepare samples, supplies and equipment for biology labs, microbiology and anatomy & physiology labs.
• Assist with equipment setup, calibration, and maintaining living organisms.
• Maintain laboratory notebook and assist instructors before lab sessions.
• Help with experiments and record results; dispose of hazardous waste.
• Support sanitation, safety, and proper handling of animals or cultures as needed.
