Job summary

UTMB Health is seeking a veterinary support professional to operate within a high-containment animal facility. The role focuses on humane care and veterinary support for laboratory animals up to ABSL4, including anesthesia, surgeries, radiography, and data recording.

The position requires prior animal facility experience or MOS 68T, and DOJ clearance within six months. On-site work with extensive PPE in a regulated biocontainment environment is expected.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Two years' experience in an animal facility or MOS 68T completion.
• DOJ clearance within six months.

Responsibilities

• Maintains qualifications to enter ABSL2, ABSL3, and ABSL4.
• Performs veterinary functions with bio-hazardous substances.
• Assists in compilation of data and long-range planning of research support.
• Maintains knowledge of biohazard operations and systems.
• Assists in preparation of technical/surgical procedures.
• Provides daily husbandry care for multiple species.
• Collects samples and processes diagnostic tests.
• Monitors pre-operative and post-operative veterinary patients.
• Performs anesthetic induction, maintenance, and monitoring.
• Provides aseptic surgical support.
• Operates and maintains medical/surgical equipment.
• Exposes and develops radiographs.
• Maintains surgical and veterinary records.
• Communicates with veterinarians and staff.
