Job summary

Violet Health in Michigan is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to manage the end-to-end billing cycle, including claims submission, AR follow-up, and resolving billing discrepancies. Qualifications

• 2+ years of medical billing, claims processing, or revenue cycle management experience.
• Familiarity with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems and payer submission guidelines.
• Hands-on experience with EHR/PM software (Athenahealth, Epic, Kareo, AdvancedMD).
• Strong numerical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and clear communication.
• Certifications like CPB or CBCS are a plus; high school diploma required; associate degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review, generate, and submit electronic and paper claims to commercial payers, Medicaid, and Medicare.
• Post payments, adjustments, and write-offs to patient accounts using EOBs and ERAs.
• Investigate denied/ rejected claims, prepare appeals, correct errors, and resubmit timely.
• Monitor aging reports and pursue outstanding balances from payers and patients.
• Address patient inquiries regarding statements, copays, deductibles, coverage, and payment plans.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and data integrity with current billing regulations.

Position Overview

We are looking for a detail-oriented, analytical Medical Billing Specialist to manage our end-to-end billing cycle. In this role, you will be responsible for submitting claims, monitoring account receivables, resolving billing discrepancies, and serving as a compassionate point of contact for patient billing inquiries. The ideal candidate brings a solid understanding of medical coding, payer guidelines, and healthcare compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Claims Processing: Review, generate, and submit electronic and paper claims to commercial insurance payers, Medicaid, and Medicare.
• Payment Posting & Reconciliation: Accurately post payments, adjustments, and write-offs to patient accounts from Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and Electronic Remittance Advice (ERAs).
• Denial & Rejection Management: Investigate rejected or denied claims, prepare appeals, correct billing errors, and resubmit claims in a timely manner.
• Accounts Receivable (A/R) Follow-Up: Monitor aging reports and actively pursue outstanding balances from payers and patients.
• Patient Support: Address patient inquiries regarding statements, copays, deductibles, coverage benefits, and payment arrangements with professionalism and empathy.
• Compliance & Data Integrity: Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations, patient privacy guidelines, and current billing regulations.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience: 2+ years of medical billing, claims processing, or revenue cycle management (RCM) experience.
• Knowledge Base: Familiarity with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems, as well as payer-specific submission guidelines.
• Software Proficiency: Hands‑on experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Practice Management (PM) software (e.g., Athenahealth, Epic, Kareo, or AdvancedMD).
• Skills: Strong numerical aptitude, problem‑solving skills, and clear verbal and written communication.
• Certifications (Preferred): Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) is a plus.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
