Skills

As a Billing Representative, you will work by phone or correspondence to gather missing information to ensure proper billing to clients, patients, or third-party insurances. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous customer service experience in a professional office setting who is interested in moving into a new area while learning additional skills. You will leverage your skills and have the ability to:

  • Adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships.

If selected for this position, it is required that you successfully complete the UnitedHealth Group new hire training and demonstrate proficiency to continue in the role.

This position is full time (40 hours/week), Monday through Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any shift during our normal business hours of either 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM or 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM PST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime, weekends, and holidays.

We offer 4 weeks of paid on-the-job training, with additional training depending on business needs. The hours of training will be either 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM or 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM PST, Monday through Friday.

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Research, obtain, and enter missing information/demographics for accessions.
  • Demonstrate competency in eligibility, billing, and receivable systems and applications.
  • Educate external customers on providing complete billing information and avoiding additional contacts.
  • Inform customers of billing issues and resolutions as appropriate.
  • Make outbound calls to clients, patients, carriers, or internal/external sources to obtain missing or additional information.
  • Respond to account inquiries through written correspondence.
  • Handle sensitive client and patient interactions.
  • Maintain timely, accurate documentation for all transactions.
  • Generate and distribute reports and documentation to internal or external clients to obtain missing information.
  • Report problems, errors, and denial trends to management, including PHI breaches.
  • Meet performance goals in efficiency, accuracy, quality, satisfaction, and attendance.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma / GED or equivalent experience
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • 1+ years of experience in a related environment (office, administrative, customer service, etc.) using phones and computers
  • 1+ years of experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Proficiency with Windows PC applications and ability to learn new systems
  • Ability to work any shift between 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM or 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM PST, Monday to Friday
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified medical coder or involved with medical coding
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment requiring multi-tasking
  • Experience in a healthcare/insurance billing call center
  • Medical terminology knowledge
  • Billing or collections experience across multiple payers and states
