Job summary

Jefferson Parish Schools is seeking a bilingual paraeducator to support English language learners by providing tutoring across subjects in the students’ native language. The role acts as a liaison among the school, parents, and staff, coordinating with ELAD to arrange native language tutoring and assisting with records and parent volunteer activities.

Qualifications

Must be bilingual with proficiency in English and at least one major language of the student population served.
Ability to translate notes, forms and letters for home language.
Experience or ability to tutor and reinforce content in students' native language in small groups or one-on-one.

Responsibilities

Serve as liaison between school staff and bilingual students and their families.
Translate notes, forms and letters to the home language.
Assist students in developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in their first and/or second language.
Tutor content area concepts in the native language, in small groups or individually.
Coordinate with ELAD and content teachers to schedule native language tutoring.
Maintain classroom order and assist teachers as needed.
Attend workshops and meetings as requested by supervisor/ELAD Coordinator.
Assist in record keeping for the Bilingual/ELAD Department and coordinate parent volunteer activities.
