Job summary

Lexington Health is seeking a Spoken Language Interpreter to facilitate communication between LEP patients, visitors, and staff at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, SC. The role focuses on accurate interpretation and cultural mediation across medical encounters.

The position requires a high school diploma, 1 year of interpreting experience, and national certification or a plan to obtain it within a year.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required (minimum education).
• At least 1 year of medical interpreting experience.
• Nationally certified at time of hire or must obtain certification within the first year (CCHI).
• Must complete Bridging the Gap Medical Interpreter training upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate outstanding listening, analytical and short-term memory skills.
• Demonstrate excellent language skills in English and another language.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical/professional codes of conduct.
• Provide interpretation services with accuracy using medical, business, and general terminology.
• Follow the National Council on Interpreting in Healthcare (NCIHC) guidelines.
• Travel to other Lexington Medical Center facilities as required.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
