Job summary

Lexington Health is seeking a Spoken Language Interpreter to facilitate communication between LEP patients, visitors, and staff at its Columbia area facilities. The role emphasizes accurate interpretation, cultural mediation, and adherence to healthcare interpreting standards.

The ideal candidate has a High School Diploma or equivalent, 1 year of medical interpreting experience, and must be nationally certified or obtain certification within the first year.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Minimum Years of Experience: 1 year of experience as a medical interpreter
• Required Certifications/Licensure: Nationally certified at time of hire or must obtain certification within the first year (CCHI)
• Required Training: Bridging the Gap Medical Interpreter training upon hire

Responsibilities

• Provides interpretation services with accuracy of meaning between patients, families, and staff
• Provides sight-translation of materials as admissible according to medical interpreting conventions
• Follows National Council on Interpreting in Healthcare (NCIHC) guidelines
• Able to travel to other Lexington Medical Center facilities
• Maintains confidentiality and professional conduct
