Job summary

Lexington Health is seeking a Spoken Language Interpreter at Lexington Medical Center in Columbia, SC to facilitate communication between LEP patients, visitors and staff. The role requires accurate interpretation, cultural mediation, and adherence to medical interpreting standards.

Requires High School Diploma, 1 year medical interpreting experience, and national certification through CCHI within the first year; Bridging the Gap training on hire.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of experience as a medical interpreter required.
• Nationally certified at time of hire or must obtain certification within first year (CCHI).
• Must complete Bridging the Gap Medical Interpreter training upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide sight-translation when needed and appropriate.
• Serve as cultural mediator to enhance communication.
• Monitor and improve interpreting skills; stay current on linguistic meanings and regional variances.
• Participate in Continuing Education to maintain certification.
• Respond to requests through ServiceHub and handle high-pressure situations.
• Able to travel to other Lexington Medical Center facilities.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
