Job summary

Seattle Public Schools seeks a classroom teacher to foster an effective learning environment under the building principal. Responsibilities include planning curricula, setting objectives, instructing, counseling, disciplining and supervising students, and evaluating progress.

Candidates must hold a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with ESL Endorsement; some positions may require first aid/CPR and a driver's license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and experience teaching a culturally, racially and economically diverse student population.
• Experience with bilingual students and assisting them in the transition to regular classrooms.
• Ability to teach multi-level, open-concept, and mainstream classes.

Responsibilities

• Plan instructional program meeting individual and whole-group needs; prepares lesson plans.
• Use effective instructional methods aligned to curriculum; attend in-service training and improve professionally.
• Establish classroom policies and supervise student conduct; provide guidance and discipline.
• Confers with students, parents/guardians and staff to support achievement.
• Set classroom goals; evaluate progress; prepare reports for guardians.
• Collect and interpret data; provide reports for administration.
• Direct activities of assigned non-certificated staff.
• Attend required staff meetings and activities to accomplish objectives.
• Serve on staff committees.
• Participate in activities to enhance personal and professional skills.
• Perform related tasks within scope and responsibility.
