Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and preparation for teaching a culturally, racially and economically diverse student population in an urban school system.
• WA Special Education Endorsement required or clearly indicated as necessary for the role.
• Experience teaching reading and adapting instructional techniques for special education students.

Responsibilities

• Foster an educational environment and plan instruction meeting individual student needs; prepare lesson plans and adapt programs as necessary.
• Use instructional methods and materials suited to students and implement curriculum objectives; pursue professional growth.
• Establish classroom policies and provide guidance and discipline to help students meet standards.
• Communicate with students, parents or guardians and collaborate with specialists and staff.
• Set goals and evaluate progress in line with IEPs and state regulations; prepare progress reports for parents/guardians.
• Direct activities of non-certificated staff and support student well-being and safety.
• Collect and interpret data to develop and evaluate IEPs and amending documents as needed.
• Attend required staff meetings and district activities to achieve position objectives.
