Job summary

Compass Family Services seeks a Bilingual Housing Problem Solving Specialist to work with families facing housing crises in San Francisco. You will assess needs, guide families through the Homelessness Response System, and connect them with shelter, rental subsidies, and housing options.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed, strengths-based problem solving, collaboration with the ONE System, and compassionate communication. Full-time, Monday–Friday, on-site at 37 Grove St.

Qualifications

• Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
• Experience in social work or a related field.
• Experience working with families in crisis.
• Excellent interpersonal, listening and communication skills.
• Strong computer skills with Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Ability to assess and de-escalate potentially volatile situations.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

Responsibilities

• Assess families’ needs and resources, explain how the homeless response system works, and provide referrals.
• Offer problem-solving support to families to maintain housing or secure safe shelter.
• Assess eligibility for shelter, rental subsidies, and permanent housing within the system.
• Provide referrals for emergency shelters, food, and other resources.
• Maintain up-to-date information in Compass’s Salesforce and city ONE System.
• Support families after matching with housing opportunities and help them access it.
• De-escalate potentially volatile situations when they occur.
