Job summary

National Youth Advocate Program in Chicago, IL seeks a Bilingual Family Advocate to support children and families in the community through advocacy and linkages to services that promote safety and permanency. The role requires Advanced Spanish, a 4-year degree in human services, and at least two years of direct service experience.

Travel to family homes is expected, with a flexible schedule including evenings and some weekends.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human services (or related field) required.
  • CERAP certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of employment.
  • 2+ years of direct service experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
  • Advanced Spanish language skills strongly required.

Responsibilities

  • Advocate for families and provide in-home services, referrals, and other social interventions.
  • Travel to family homes for intakes and safety checks and assist with guardianship processes.
  • Complete guardianship applications including fingerprinting and birth/death certificate retrieval.
  • Maintain accurate program records and complete required documentation timely.
  • Support agency mission and work collaboratively with partners and coworkers.

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Program Director or designee, this position works to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the children and families served. This position works closely with NYAP clients and community partners, providing advocacy and support toward the goal of living safely and successfully in the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The Family Advocate EFSP will perform duties including, but not limited to:
  • Actively supports, represents, and extends the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  • Assists clients in applying for Guardianship of their minor relatives and/or fictive kin.
  • Provides in-home supportive services, community resource referrals, advocacy, and other social service interventions to the clients.
  • Travels to family homes to complete intakes and safety checks. Accompany families to complete guardianship applications, including fingerprinting services and assists families in obtaining birth and death certificates.
  • Provides services in compliance with organizational, contract, and regulatory requirements.
  • Completes and submits all required documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintains complete and accurate programmatic records.
  • Completes other duties as assigned b y supervisor
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in human services with previous community services experience. MA preferred.
  • 2 years of work experience working in direct service strongly preferred.
  • CERAP Certified or the ability to obtain certification within 3 months of employment.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, automotive insurance, and a good driving record.
  • A willingness to work flexible and non-traditional hours, including evening and weekend hours as needed.
  • Capacity to be flexible and responsive to clients served, system partners and internal customers.
  • Capacity to remain objective and professional in all areas of job function.
  • Demonstrates tolerance and respect for the ideas and actions of others.
  • Capacity to effectively work with and be respectful and sensitive to people from various cultures, socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, and racial backgrounds.
  • Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, Smart phones and tablets, printers, fax machines and photocopiers as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
  • Time management, organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Advanced Spanish language skills highly required.

The person in this position needs to follow a team concept and support both agency goals and co-workers. Employees must be able to effectively work with and be respectful and sensitive to people from various cultures, socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, and racial backgrounds.
