Job summary

The National Youth Advocate Program (NYAP) in Aurora, CO is seeking a Youth Worker to collaborate with youth and families, delivering advocacy and support toward targeted goals. Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year in child welfare/working with children or adolescents.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish fluency.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Automobile insurance coverage of $100,000/$300,000 bodily injury.
  • Proficient use of computers, internet search, and basic office tools.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision of children in care and maintain line-of-sight.
  • Interact with youth to build trust and support goal achievement.
  • Provide leadership during programs and ensure a warm, safe atmosphere.
  • Report issues to the Out-of-School Coordinator.
  • Complete trainings and all required documentation promptly.
  • Maintain positive attitude toward youth and families, coworkers, and others.

Position Summary

The Youth Workerfor La Jornadaworks to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the families being served by the National Youth Advocate Program by working closely with the youth and family to provide advocacy and support towards targeted goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform all work in a manner consistent with the National Youth Advocate Program’s Mission, Values and Philosophies.
  • Provide direct supervision of children in care, including alwaysmaintainingline-of-sight.
  • Interact with the youth to develop a trusting, supportive relationship whileassistingthe youth in achieving identified goals.
  • Provide youthwiththe appropriateleadershipduringtheprogram.
  • Provideawarm,caringandsafeatmospherefortheprogram.
  • ReportanyproblemwhicharisestotheOutofSchoolCoordinator.
  • Responsibleforallactivityandroompreparationsfortheprogram.
  • Completeallrelevanttrainingonatimelybasisasrequiredbystate,contract,and/orlicensingagencystandards.
  • Completeallrequireddocumentationinatimelymanner.
  • Maintainapositiveattitudetowardallyouth,co‑workers,familiesandothersinvolvedwiththeprogram.
  • Performotherdutiesasassigned.
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS
  • HighSchoolDiplomaorequivalentdegree.
  • Aminimumof1yearemploymentexperienceinthechildwelfarefieldworkingwithchildrenand/oradolescents.
  • ExcellentInterpersonalandcommunicationskills,withtheabilitytoengageandinteracteffectivelywithminors.
  • Patience,empathy,andtheabilitytoprovideemotionalsupporttominorsastheynavigatevariousdevelopmentalstages.
  • Flexibilityandadaptabilitytoworkinadynamicandfast-pacedenvironment.
  • BilingualEnglish/Spanishfluency.
  • Musthaveavaliddriver’slicense,reliabletransportation,automotiveinsuranceandgoodrecord.
