Job summary

Memphis-Shelby County Schools seeks an ESL paraprofessional to bridge communication between staff, students, and families whose primary language is not English. You will provide interpretation, tutoring, and translation services while supporting academic achievement for multilingual students.

The role includes chaperoning field trips, monitoring student behavior, handling inquiries, and performing routine clerical tasks.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree or 2 years of college (minimum 48 semester hours) acceptable.
Passing Parapro Assessment or equivalent combination of education/experience required.
Experience translating/mentoring; bilingual setting preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide oral and written interpretation between school, teachers, parents and students.
Provide academic tutoring and assistance to non-English-speaking students; help them learn fluent English.
Translate district/school documents to other languages as qualified.
Serve as chaperone on field trips to facilitate communication with ESL students.
Assist in enforcing school rules by monitoring students on school grounds.
Respond to inquiries and concerns about programs, policies, and procedures.
Attend meetings with teachers, principals and administrators to discuss issues.
Document all contact with and services provided to students.
Attend trainings and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills.
Perform routine clerical tasks such as reports, correspondence, filing, and data entry.
