Job summary

Memphis-Shelby County Schools seeks an ESL interpreter/academic aide to bridge communication between staff, students and families who speak languages other than English. The role provides academic tutoring, interprets for classrooms and events, and translates documents as qualified.

Ideal candidates have an Associate degree or two years of college, plus ParaPro assessment eligibility. Experience translating in educational settings is preferred, and the position may involve field-trip supervision

Qualifications

• Proven ability to translate and mentor students in a bilingual setting.
• Experience with translating and interpreting between English and other languages.
• Ability to provide academic support to non-English-speaking students.

Responsibilities

• Provides oral and written interpretation between the school, teachers, parents and students.
• Provides academic tutoring and other academic assistance for non-English-speaking students.
• Translates District/school documents to other languages as qualified.
• Serves as chaperone on field trips to facilitate communication with ESL students.
• Assists in enforcing school rules and regulations by monitoring students on school grounds.
