Job summary

BioLife Plasma Services in Thornton, CO is hiring a Medical Support Specialist to support plasma center operations. You will report to the Plasma Center Manager and determine donor eligibility, obtain informed consent, review medical history, conduct physical exams, and oversee SPE testing as part of donor screening.

This role requires state licensure as EMT-B/A/I or Paramedic / LPN/LVN / RN, CPR/AED certification, and at least two years in a clinical setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent to including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
• Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: EMT-B, EMT-A, EMT-I, EMT-P, LPN/LVN, or RN.
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
• Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy.
• Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
• Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Determine donor eligibility; manage informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview and acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing SPE.
• Evaluate donor reaction(s) and follow SOPs for medical emergencies including center physician standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
• Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance concerning medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
• Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
• Manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER; refer to EHS guidance.
• Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats.
