Job summary

The Family Place in Dallas is seeking an empathetic Hotline Counselor to be the first contact for survivors seeking help. You will provide crisis support, assess risk, and help callers create safety plans that promote immediate protection and long-term wellbeing.

Responsibilities include intake for shelter residents, emergency placement when needed, referrals, and confidential documentation. Strong crisis intervention skills and a trauma-informed approach are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, criminal justice, or related human services field preferred.
• Minimum one year of crisis intervention experience or equivalent.
• Bilingual English/Spanish may be required for some roles.
• Valid Texas driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Answer hotline calls seeking shelter, safety, or resources related to domestic violence.
• Assess immediate risk and establish caller safety needs.
• Provide empathetic support using trauma-informed communication.
• Help callers develop personalized safety plans for immediate and long-term safety.
• Conduct intake assessments for new shelter residents and emergency placement when needed.
• Provide referrals and safety planning when shelter isn’t available.
• Maintain accurate client records and assist with training staff/volunteers.
